A New Take on Sports, Voice & Video

Fankave app enables fans to build their own community and experience live sports/game events anywhere and anytime, by using aggregated social content and voice/media integration

A New Take on Sports App

Sports app that offers real-time sports updates with video, voice and social media integration

GOALS & ROLE

I was part of the Fankave team’s first designer to help acquire first round of funding. I led the design strategy, wire-framing, and user testing for their iPad app. With 2 weeks deadline, and limited resources, the app was released just-in-time for NFL Season.

challenges

  • 2 weeks deadline to first funding round towards NFL Season launch

  • Limited resources for research, and user testing

  • Limited screen real estate to integrate social media feed and commentary

SCHEDULE SCREEN

I helped design the game schedule screen alongside inputs from the co-founders. My biggest challenge was to consolidate team information onto cards, and also create a cohesive UI that would appeal to the demographics

kave details screen

The details screen helps users view friends in your kave (team/group) with an ability to invite more friends. It also includes the team scores and channel details so the users don’t have to go back to the schedule screen. All team related information is readily available on this screen

menu, favorites & team list

I understand the importance of user information, and the ability to view settings, details, etc. My idea of including a favorite list was to enable users to view all teams that they frequently watch, or have added to their (kave) groups.

wireframe exploration

My Co-founders and I explored several ideas for all the screens. It was an iterative process that helped us arrive at the best possible design solution for every problem

visual design exploration

We explored several different color palettes based on demographics, content details, and overall vision from the team

learning & takeaways

  • Content structure: Although we secured first round of funding for the startup, there are several areas where the UI can be enhanced and improved. Content structure around social media integration can be better

  • User Research & Testing: Being a startup, we had limited resources to invest in research and testing. However, user research and user testing are extremely important aspects of any product experience launch. Every team must invest time and resources in understanding the usage, and testing the flows.

  • Visual design enhancement: Color scheme was well received, but the contrast color scheme and iconography can be improved as well
